PLEASE HELP:---
MY XBOX DRIVE DOES NOT OPEN AND SAYS :--
OPEN TRAY OR UNRECOGNIZED DISC.
-----------
OK.
If your xbox 360 is giving you error messages, open tray, unrecognised disc, or it wont read the disc at all, noting seem to work and you have tried to clean the drive with a dvd lens cleaner. Then clearly the disc drive of the unit is faulty and would need to be replaced.
Replacing a drive on this xbox360 is not as simple as one might think, the old drives firmware has to be read on a Desktop computer - the drive must be connected to a desktop computer with a VIA sata chipset- That is not a recommendation, that is REQUIRED, to get a special key. Then you need to take the new drive and connect it to the computer as well read its firmware and modify the key it contains to match the original.
if this is not done, the new drive will not work on the console, you will get a error code on the screen contact support.
as you can see this is major operation and is very far from simple.
It would be best for you to send this unit to Microsoft for repair. Or do you think you could do it? there is a high chance of ruining a dvd drive if you press the wrong button and flash it with the wrong firmware or if something else goes wrong. I've done it myself, and I can assist you if needed.
To get help - repair from Microsoft call
* Toll free: (800) 4MY-XBOX or (800) 469-9269
* Direct dial: (425) 635-7180 .

THANK YOU.
